All in the family
Sheila E was coming to Minnesota for a wedding this weekend so she chose to bring her family band along -- to not play at her godson's reception but to do a rare club engagement.
"We are gigging a great deal lately," she said from the E Family, which features her father, Latin jazz legend Pete Escovedo, 72, and her two brothers, Juan and Peter Michael.
"It's similar to coming into our living room," Sheila, 49, said recently from her La office. "We don't rehearse because we just abide by ear. That's what's so cool, since it is very spontaneous."
Saturday or sunday in the Dakota Jazz Club, the E Family will play tunes from the forthcoming debut album, "Love's All Around," which features such special guests as Joss Stone, Gloria Estefan,[url=http://woolrichoutletfr.halod.com/][b]Doudoune Woolrich Parka Femme Outlet[/b][/url], Earth, Wind Fire, Alejandro Escovedo (Sheila's uncle) and Prince,[url=http://woolrichswedense.gengfl.com/][b]http://woolrichswedense.gengfl.com/[/b][/url], of course.

In 1984, she recorded the first of her three albums that he produced, and then she drummed in the band from 1987 to 1989 for that "Sign o' the Times" and "Lovesexy" albums and tours.

She joined him onstage this past year in Minneapolis for all three of the shows in the 7/7/07 celebration and again this April at the Coachella Festival.
"Musically, we have a bond; we understand one another," she said. "There's times we get taken care of and sometimes we get in one another's way. But I think the respect that people have for each other works."
Olympic dreams
Sheila Escovedo grew up with musical instruments all around the house. Latin percussion giant Tito Puente was her godfather, and her dad was a big-time percussionist who used Santana, Puente, Cal Tjader, Woody Herman and the own band,[url=http://woolrichoutletfr.halod.com/][b]Doudoune Woolrich Parka Femme[/b][/url], Azteca.
Three of his four children became percussionists.

"We grew up listening to him experiment the house. He practiced to records all the time. And when his band wasn't rehearsing, they'd have jam sessions within our living room all the time. Sheila, however, dreamed of becoming an Olympic sprinter. But one evening when she was 15, among the percussionists in Azteca was sick. She asked her father if she could sit in. "It was a massive experience because I'd never been able to express myself in that way," she recalled.
