Are awards shows just an excuse for celeb egotism
The People Choice Awards,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the Screen Guild Actors Awards, The Oscar just to name a few awards shows designed to give the celebrities another chance to gloat and dress up and make political statements. It seems there are award shows for every possible category of entertainment, probably enough shows for every week day plus a few extra special ones to garner international attention.
Most people in the real world find it all a little much. TV loves the ratings as well as the pomp and circumstance involved with award shows. The tabloid shows like Extra and Entertainment tonight are certainly all about the strokes, drama, the styles and statements made by the rich and famous. Magazines and books are certainly full of the photos and gossip about celebrity life. Tabloid papers and gossip magazines Include the dirt about the stress; the cheating; the drugs and alcohol abuse in their stories to keep readers turning pages.
The celebrities feed off all this attention. For them it is about ego and power. They get to dress up to be seen and to be talked about. It is free press for their current relationship, movie, book or what ever. The only thing that can top the celebrities for grandstanding may be the politicians in Washington. They seem to think they are also rich and famous and deserve celebrity status as well as the Hollywood crowd. Begins!
It is a huge industry, the awards shows, that sell more than just pomp and circumstance they make a lot of money for the vendors and behind the scenes people. Award shows are a booming business that will never run out of egos and reasons for a new award ceremony.
What is sad is that for all of the good many stars do, their positive contributions are tainted by the ones that behave badly. It would be something if the people who make millions used their money to help thank the public that keeps them in the style they are accustomed to by behaving as role models for others. Having more exposure all over the world is why the Hollywood set should be required to have a higher standard,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], than say the nickel and dime public that pays for the products and movies.
When they act like fools they should not be rewarded, no awards should be made to celebrities that have been arrested or use drugs or flaunt irresponsible behaviors. Betty Ford clinics should not have revolving doors! If the paying public would stop feeding the beast then the beast would calm down in order to live the good life. We have movie stars today and other celebrities that are pure trash with few redeeming qualities. There are millions of people with the talent for acting or singing or dancing. Why should we let a few abusive degenerates set the example that it is okay to act like drug addicts and insane folks? We deserve more from our celebrities and our children deserve a lot better from these idols of all ages.
The sexual conquests and multiple marriages are also way out of line with reality. It is all about beauty, money,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], sex, and one kind of addiction or another. Stop the madness and begin with the awards being restricted for actors that promote negative images. These actors should clean up their act before they are worthy of an award! Being a good actor doesn make the person a good person; in fact it seems to work against the Hollywood set. The more money, fame and awards, the worse they become as role models or good influences on others. This article seemed to me right off the get go as a no brainer. And as a lover of most all entertainment you may call me a little biased. The fact of the matter is that as much as I watch,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], be it,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], movies, TV, or watching reality. I can very easily tell when shows or actors are simply doing whatever it is they're doing just for the simple publicity side of it. For example, Brett Michaels is part of a great rock band,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], made a show simply for the publicity and for the women, and is now doing a show for the right reasons, and giving back charity money to a great cause!
The Oscars, is a night where the stars dress to the "T",[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they get jewelry and dress and suits lent to them by huge designers, they also receive gift bags full of items we have to save for weeks just to even think about purchasing. The dinner is more than likely better testing than anything we will ever be able to taste, yet with all the glitz and glamour of stars like Brad Pitt, Halle Berry, or Tom Cruise there are the true stars that do and should in their own right be held in the spotlight that day. Think of the movie Avatar, this year that movie made more money than anything we have seen in a very long time,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and while you know James Cameron and Sigourney Weaver are there any actors or behind the scenes people you can name from that movie? The answer is most likely not, and only a very select few of those members actually get to come out onto the stage to except the awards. While the big name actors draw us into the movies,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with the punchlines,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], action scenes and beautiful makeup they receive it is all these people behind them doing just simply amazing work to make all that possible. So if for one night they get a chance to at least hold that little gold trophy and be recognized as the stars then I say who cares if in doing so it boosts the egos of those whom they make the movies with.
In the end I don't believe the academy does this for the ego boost of their celebs. In all honesty,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we all know no actor in Hollywood needs a Ego boost. If you look at it another way, athletes are some of the most pampered celebs in the world,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they don't need any extra attention. Each league (MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL) gives out awards at the end of the season, and in addition to that ESPN has the ESPY's which is a great big event and gives people a chance to find out things about sports they may not have known. It also gives awards to teams as well as individuals. What it doesn't do is give the water boys, the bus drivers, and people in charge of washing the jerseys and such an award. So if the Oscar's want to have a night giving the awards for the best in their fields so be it,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we know in the end the order of goals they re trying to accomplish would be boosting of the celebs ego last,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], then, bringing members of films we never knew of second,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and of course money would be the number one thing it brings in.
