One type of shoes that can be worn for protection is known as "ghillies." The guillies are generally worn for Scottish and Irish dancing. While belly dancing, you will be much more comfortable with the soft ones.

I am looking all over for a more "old fashioned" lebanese style dance shoe, they used to wear these thick heels. Do you have any idea where I can find them and also would you know if dancing on these kind of heels in cities like beirout and Dubai is "not done" nowadays (since fashion i such a serious topic there.) looking forward to your reply!
