Body recovered in Moy as search for missing man continues,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
TRAGEDY struck the town of Ballina over the weekend when a search for a missing man uncovered the body of a woman from the River Moy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
The body of Bríd Corcoran,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a single woman in her fifties was discovered on Sunday afternoon at 2.15pm by search and rescue teams who were searching the Moy river for Paddy Murphy (50) of Cloghans,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Ballina,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who was reported missing.
Ms Corcoran lived alone at Marian Cresent in Ballina and at the time had not been reported missing to Gardaí. The discovery was made at Bachelor's Walk and her body was taken to Mayo General Hospital on Sunday evening for a postmortem,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but foul play is not expected.
The Mayor of Ballina,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Cllr Mary Kelly said the town was shocked at the discovery of the body and sympathised with the family of Ms Corcoran.
"This is a terrible tragedy at anytime of the year but particularly during the Christmas period and my thoughts and prayers are with the family at this sad time,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," she said.
The search for Paddy Murphy continues after he was reported missing on Friday and has not been seen alive since Thursday evening. He was last seen walking alone towards the traffic lights at the junction of Pearse Street and O'Rahilly Street. Members of the Civil Defence,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the Gardaí and the general public are involved in the search.
A Garda spokesperson said that Paddy was well-known man around the town and are anxious for anyone who may have seen him since Thursday night to contact them. They are asking people in the Cloghans area to check their lands and out-houses. Paddy is described as five foot seven inches,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], weighs about 12 stone and has receding dark hair. When he was last seen,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he was wearing a grey zip-up anorak,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a white shirt,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], black trousers and brown shoes.
