Fedor stomped out,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
"Bigfoot" stomped out Strikeforce's Heavyweight Grand Prix and might have ended the career of the most revered fighter of our time.
Brazilian Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva stopped legendary Fedor Emelianenko after two rounds due to a swollen eye Saturday to stun a partisan Russian crowd and advance to the semifinals of the Strikeforce tournament in the headlining match at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
"It might be time to leave," Emelianenko said in the cage after the fight."Yes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], maybe it's the last time. It's high time. I've spent a great, beautiful sport life. Maybe it's God's will."
Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Silva was seemingly billed as a one-man show, with few giving Silva (16-2), who actually is a former heavyweight champion with the promotion, a chance at victory. The decision to stop the fight was made by the ringside physician, who saw Emelianenko's right eye swollen completely shut and did not allow him to continue.

While Emelianenko strongly hinted at retirement, M-1 boss Vadim Finkelchtein and director of operations Evgeni Kogan stated they think Fedor will come back to fight once again. "There wasn't much said. They went off to the hospital to make sure the orbital bone was not broken."
The Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix, Coker said,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], has a committee that determines replacements should one of the advancing fighters be unable to compete. While there was one official reserve bout on the Izod Center card,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], indications were made by Coker and Finkelchtein that Emelianenko would be given every opportunity to get back into the tournament if he is healthy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], wants to compete and circumstances lead to a spot to be opened.
As for the fight, Emelianeko and Silva staged a highly entertaining slugfest for the first part of the first round, and each showed good ground skills as the other took him down in the second half.
Silva brutalized Emelianenko (31-3, 1 NC) for the entire second round,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], putting him on his back in the opening moments and never letting him up.
Silva immediately took down Emelianenko after the second-round bell and made him fight out of half-guard defense. Emelianenko worked quickly to try for better position, but Silva managed to get into mount and Fedor could not get out. Emelianenko switched back and forth from back to belly inside the mount. Silva gave up the position for a moment to lock in a tight arm triangle, but somehow Emelianenko survived what appeared to be a sure choke out.
Silva was back in the mount again and stayed there until the final moments of the round, when he went for a knee bar,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but Emelianenko defended with a knee-bar attempt of his own, forcing Silva to ride out the final seven seconds in what looked like a 10-8 round.
Although Emelianenko managed to mount an amazing defense of ground strikes, he took so many that the eye swelling could not be controlled within the one-minute break between rounds.
Somewhat lost in the shuffle was the performance of Emelianenko's countryman, Sergei Kharitonov, who advanced to the semifinals in the previous fight. Kharitonov was loading up his right hand, and when he unleashed it, Andrei Arlovski was quickly done.
Kharitonov (18-4) became the first fighter to advance to the semifinals of the tournament with a knockout of Arlovski (15-9),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], blasting him with a right hand and then finishing with a ground strike that knocked cold the former UFC champion at 2:49 of the first round.
Arlovski was content to stand with Kharitonov, who waited for just the right time to unleash his right hand. Arlovski could not close the gap and deliver knees. When he connected and knocked down Arlovski, Kharitonov went over the top with a left hand that knocked out the Belarussian, He delivered a hard right to the chin before referee Kevin Mulhall could stop him.
"Andrei Arlovski is a very dangerous striker,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Kharitonov said through an interpreter. "My coaches and I watched a lot of film for this fight. We trained for both scenarios, on the ground and in stand up. It went just like we planned."
Kharitonov will take on the winner of the fight between Josh Barnett and Brett Rogers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], while Silva meets the winner of the match that pits champion Alistair Overeem against Fabricio Werdum. Werdum began to knock the luster off Emelianenko when he beat him last year.
In the Heavyweight Grand Prix reserve bout,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Shane del Rosario overcame Lavar Johnson, scoring an arm bar submission at 4:31 of the first round. Del Rosario (11-0) expended a lot of energy in the round before finding Johnson's arm and locking it up for a quick tap.
It appears del Rosario will be second in line behind Fedor if a spot opens in the tournament,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. But at least he is now on to Strikeforce's bigger events after spending time in its Challengers series.
"If they call me up, I'll be ready to go," del Rosario said. "If not,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I look forward to my next fight."
Griggs,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], whose cauliflower ear was badly bloodied, landed a huge right hand to end an exchange and melt Villante to the canvas. Sefo tried to lock in a guillotine when Overeem (29-25) went for the takeown but never secured it. Overeem had Sefo (2-1) in side control, slipped his right arm underneath his neck and then locked his hands to get Sefo to tap with both hands.
