Houston Texas A Aggies
Aggie football in the 2010 season brought the anointing of a new starting quarterback after a struggling fan favorite lost his touch on the field, and the rebirth of the physical Wrecking Crew of old under a new defensive coordinator and stellar senior Von Miller. It was the most memorable season since 1998, when the Aggies won the Big 12 title and had a star linebacker picked in the NFL Draft as the Cowboys picked Dat Nguyen.
The Ags opened the season by axing the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks 48-7 in front of the largest home opening crowd of 81287 at Kyle Field. The only score of the first quarter came in the last minute as sophomore tailback Christine Michael ran it in from 15 yards. Two field goals by Randy Bullock were separated in the second quarter by sophomore corner Dustin Harris' 38-yard pick-six and a passing touchdown for SFA. The Aggies led 20-7 at the half and came out swinging in the third. Senior quarterback Jerrod Johnson ran for a score and threw one to junior wideout Jeff Fuller while Michael again found the endzone from the ground to make it 41-7. Johnson and Fuller hooked up again in the fourth for the final score of 48-7. The Ags finished with 192 net rushing yards and 347 through the air. The defense showed signs of improvement from last season as they held SFA to only 266 total yards, forced three fumbles and picked off a pass. The potential return of the Wrecking Crew reignited a flame in the Twelfth Man as they burned late night oil reminiscing about the days of old.
The flame dampened as Louisiana Tech came to Kyle Field and befuddled the seemingly unstoppable Aggie offense. Neither team could hang on to the ball as they combined for 8 turnovers in the first half, including three bothersome fumbles by the A special teams. The Bulldogs struck first with a field goal late in the first quarter but the Aggies answered with junior tailback Cyrus Gray's 3-yard run in the last minute. The game of checkers continued in the second, merrell shoes on sale for men, as A scored on a Jerrod Johnson pass to junior receiver/backup quarterback Ryan Tannehill and quickly gave up another running score to the Bulldogs. The offense finally got the crowd going on the last play of the half with a Johnson launching a prayer to sophomore receiver Uzoma Nwachukwu from 44-yards. The Aggies got a spark from freshman joker Damontre Moore's three forced fumbles in the game, igniting the Aggies to two offensive scores. Sophomore corner Dustin Harris added fuel with a 54-yard punt return for points, giving the Aggies a 38-10 lead heading into the final stanza. Although both teams faltered early, the defense allowed only 269 yards and two interceptions to give fans hope of improvement.
The offense floundered early against perennial Sun Belt doormat Florida International, but fished out a 27-20 victory after scoring 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter at Kyle Field. Jerrod Johnson hit the turf six times in the first half and went 6-15 with four interceptions. Amid chants of "Tan-ne-hill" from unruly spectators calling for Johnson's replacement, Coach Sherman stuck with the struggling senior. Cyrus Gray carried the offense in the first half en rout to 9 carries for 85 yards and a score for the day. Christine Michael helped carry the load, adding 132 yards and a score of his own. Johnson's struggles worsened with three consecutive drives ending with an interception, but he came through in the fourth quarter throwing a 33-yard strike for six to senior receiver Terrence McCoy, whom he overshot for a touchdown earlier in the game. The defense gave up 20 points to the Golden Panthers after Johnson's interceptions gave them good field possession, but only allowed 232 yards and forced three turnovers. Cyrus Gray's score with under-five minutes left capped the sloppy 27-20 victory and sent fans moping toward the exits.
A then traveled to Stillwater to play the Oklahoma State Cowboys in a matchup of teams sitting just outside the NCAA top-25 rankings with 3-0 records. The Aggie offense was plagued with turnovers yet again, giving up the rock five times in the 35-38 loss. The loss leaves Coach Sherman winless against the Cowboys in three tries. Jeff Fuller led A receivers with two touchdown receptions, breaking Bob Long's 1968 career receiving touchdown record of 20 on a 5-yard,duvetica shop online, lob pass from Johnson in the first quarter. The Ags struck again later in the first on a shovel pass from Johnson to Cyrus Gray. The Cowboys hit pay dirt late in the second with a long touchdown pass, peuterey parka online, but the Aggies drove down the field to set up another Johnson-Fuller connection with nine seconds before the half. After taking a 21-7 lead into the half,http://rogervivierweddingshoes.olimx.com/, A gave up 28 straight points in the second half, including a 63-yard fumble return. The offense took it personally and delivered two touchdown passes, giving Johnson five for the game. Johnson ended with 409 yards on 40 completions on the day, unfortunately he also completed four passes to the Cowboys, including one in the final minute that led to the game-winning field goal by OSU's Dan Bailey.
After a stunning defeat in Stillwater,Duvetica Jacken, the Aggies lost 24-17 to No. 11 Arkansas in the second installment of the Southwest Classic at Cowboys Stadium. Both squads bolted out of the gate as Arkansas scored through the air early and A answered with a methodical drive capped by a 1-yard run by Christine Michael. Then the Hogs unleashed a 71-yd score through the air, sending worried Aggie fans to the pricey concession stands of "Jerry World." The second quarter was scoreless until the final minute when Arkansas threw for another score. A answered with a 31-yard touchdown pass from Jerrod Johnson to Jeff Fuller,Duvetica Coats Shop, the third score in the last 10 seconds of the first half in the season. The excitement would stop there as the only two scores in the second half were a field goal by each team in the third quarter, sending the Aggies to a 3-2 record and fans into a panic. The struggling Johnson went 15-40 with 212 yards and a score through the air, but threw a pick on a last-second lob to the endzone. That made more the fourth turnover on the day, the fourth straight week the Aggies turned it over at least four times. The defense gave up 442 yards to the Hogs, the first time the Aggies allowed more than 400 yards all season.
The Aggies then laid down for No. 21 Missouri to take a 30-9 victory in front of 83,453 fans at Kyle Field. A only two scores came on a field goal by Randy Bullock late in the third quarter, and Johnson-Fuller touchdown connection through the air in the fourth. The defense gave up 417 total yards, the second consecutive game of over 400 total yards allowed. Jerrod Johnson threw for 322 yards and a score, and seemed to rid himself of the turnover bug for good by completing passes only to same-colored jerseys. Senior joker Von Miller took his fair share on the defensive side, making six tackles and recording his second sack of the season. Other than that,Moncler Jacken Online Shop österreich Moncler Weste Herren Daunenjacke Billig, it was straight up awful.
A followed up the vomit-inducing game against Missouri with a promising 45-10 victory at Kansas. Coach Sherman expressed doubt at the quarterback position,Duvetica piumini, platooning Jerrod Johnson and Ryan Tannehill for the first time in the season. Johnson ran in for a score in the first quarter and finished with 167 total yards on offense, billig Moncler Jacken Damen, surpassing Reggie McNeal for career total offensive yardage. Then Tannehill took over the reins and responded with 155 passing yards and his first three passing touchdowns at A Ryan Swope led the team in receptions with nine, but Jeff Fuller led with 121 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The first of Fuller's touchdowns was a 39-yard strike from Tannehill that tied Fuller for the record of nine touchdown receptions a single season. The second broke the record. The defense gave up 331 yards to Kansas, highlighted by Damontre Moore's five tackles, 1.5 sacks and the first interception of his career.
When new Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville and the less pass-friendly Red Raiders sauntered into Kyle Field, Ryan Tannehill ironically set the school record for passing yards in whooping Tech, 45-27. Tannehill completed 72 percent of his passes with sound decision-making and pocket awareness. Ryan Swope arose as one of Tannehill's favorite targets, picking up 105 yards receiving, but Jeff Fuller put the best numbers of his collegiate career with 11 catches and 171 yards. Tannehill spread the ball to 10 receivers, allowing the offense to run 93 plays and establish its own tempo. Tannehill not only threw darts to his receivers, but he also showed his versatility with a coffin corner punt in the third quarter. In the aftermath of the shellacking, a starter had emerged along with a resilient team.
After the emergence of a quarterback came the long-awaited return of the Wrecking Crew, as A beat No. 8 Oklahoma for the first time in eight years, 33-19 at Kyle Field. Von Miller owned the OU back field with 8 tackles, 3 for a loss and 1.5 sacks, and haunted them from the sidelines when battling cramps. The Miller-led Aggie defense stopped OU on fourth down four different times in the contest, including three goal-line stands, provoking chants of "Wrecking Crew," from the defense-craved Twelfth Man. Stephen Hodges had a career game,Woolrich Arctic Parka, racking up 19 tackles and two sacks, while defensive backs Terrence Frederick and Coryell Judie played intelligent and physical on the OU wideouts.
The No. 25 Aggies brought their first national ranking in four years to Waco, but digressed in the first half of a wooly 42-30 win over the Baylor Bears. The Ags trailed 30-21 after a lax first half, including a 71-yard run by Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III for a touchdown. Bright spots for the Aggies in the first half came with Coryell Judie returning a kickoff for a touchdown and a Ryan Tannehill touchdown pass to Ryan Swope. Tannehill would finish the night 27-38, going for 280 yards and one touchdown. A came out in the second half to keep the hopes of a Big 12 title alive as Cyrus Gray's second touchdown run of the night brought the Ags within two and Von Miller forced a fumble to end the Bears' next scoring drive. Gray then scored his third touchdown on the ground to put the Aggies on top for good. After adding another touchdown to clinch the win, Gray finished with a career-high 137 yards rushing on 28 carries. The Aggie defense held the Bears' top 10 offense to 136 total yards and no points in the second half, resulting in another "Wrecking Crew" chant from Aggie fans in attendance.
The Twelfth Man towels were flying and 90,079 fans erupted as Von Miller sacked Nebraska's quarterback, shaking the Aggies out of a 12 year slumber to beat No. 9 Nebraska 9-6 on a historic evening at Kyle Field. The last home game for seniors Miller and Michael Hodges was a testament to their physical and emotional leadership throughout the season. Hodges led the team in tackles while Miller had two game-changing sacks and made virtually every big play in the contest. Offensively, Cyrus Gray was patient and physical on his way to 202 all-purpose yards on the night. After the game,Moncler Jacken Outlet, the Aggies credited the tough win to the relentless Twelfth Man, as the team mirrored the fans' unwavering intensity throughout the game.
Five straight wins would mean nothing if the Aggies had lost in Austin, but the revival of the Wrecking Crew led the Aggies to a 24-17 victory over the hated Longhorns. Von Miller cemented his spot as the nation's best linebacker with seven tackles, two sacks, a fumble recovery and a crucial interception in the game. The defense forced four turnovers and dominated the line of scrimmage to bring the total points allowed to 23 in the last 10 quarters. Cyrus Gray had another superhuman performance with 223 yards and 2 touchdowns, billig Moncler Jacken Damen Weste Moncler Jacken Outlet Österreich, behind a young offensive line that dominating its counterpart throughout the game. The win gave the Aggies a share of the Big 12 South title with Oklahoma, which was manhandled in the meeting between the two at Kyle Field.
Aggie fans sulked after getting snubbed from the Big 12 title game because of the skewed FBS rankings, then the Aggies were taken behind the woodshed by LSU in a 24-41 romping in the Cotton Bowl. There was hope early as the Aggies scored first on a six yard pass from Ryan Tannehill to Uzoma Nwachukwu, followed by a 39-yard field goal by Randy Bullock. LSU answered with a late-first and an early-second quarter touchdown before racking up two more scores, sandwiching a tricky touchdown pass from running back Cyrus Gray to Nwachukwu. LSU had the only score of the third, and the Aggies' were done after only one score in the final stanza. The Aggies were held to 373 total offensive yards,Woolrich Arctic Parka Outlet, while giving up 446 yards to LSU. Ryan Tannehill submitted his worst grade on the final exam, going 22-35 for 204 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions against the most athletic secondary the Aggies faced all season.
Aggie seniors Von Miller and Jerrod Johnson then prepared for the professional level at combines, Pro Day and other workouts. Miller was predicted to be taken within the first 12 picks of the NFL Draft,Woolrich Arctic Parka Uomo Outlet Woolrich Parka Italy Outlet, but the Denver Broncos surprised some analysts when they took him with the second overall selection. Miller posed for cameras with the commissioner, donning a new suit, a Gig'em and his Aggie Ring. Johnson was drafted first overall in the United Football League by the Hartford Colonials. His new head coach is Jerry Glanville, peuterey online shop, who led the Houston Oilers and Atlanta Falcons to the NFL playoffs in the late 80s and early 90s.
Expectations are higher than ever after such a successful season and anticipation of a preseason ranking for 2011. Only time will tell if A makes it up the steep hill of expectations, but the Twelfth Man will rock Kyle Field to push the Aggies over the top.
