The easiest way a great Retirement Calculator,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
We been talking a great deal about retirement calculators lately,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but exactly how do you choose a good one? An internet search for calculator will bring you a myriad of free, online tools. Although not all of them are equally useful. Some ignore inflation while some assume an overly optimistic view that income will grow by 3 % annually or the rate of return on investments is going to be 10 %.
I prefer calculators that let you decide all the variables. They require more effort,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], however you can see for yourself what sort of rate of return of 6 percent, or 3 %, would affect future retirement income. Here are a few factors to look out for:
Life expectancy. Some calculators actually request you to guess how long you'll live, as if anyone knows. Others assume a life expectancy of 85,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which I think is every bit foolish, given today longer life spans. I prefer calculators that assume a life span of at least 95.
Replacement income. While financial advisers have long suggested a replacement salary of 80 percent, that may be lacking, given rising healthcare costs. A goal of replacing 100 % of one preretirement income is the greater conservative choice.
Inflation. Some calculators assume either no inflation or a really low inflation rate. Given how current food prices have increased, which may be overly optimistic. I love calculators that allow you to choose the rate of inflation or make use of a conservative estimate, for example Three to five percent.

So you really believe that I must replace 100% of my current income,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]? What about the 25% I'm currently placing into my 401k along with other investments? That would mean I only need to replace 75%? What about the 529b fund for my sons college? Do I need to include that forever too? (assuming obviously he doesn't get a university degree after which move back in),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Why 100%? It would seem that with reduced housing/smaller home needs,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], no contribution towards retirement once I'm there,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I should safely be able to live as well as today on 70-75%
Kimberly:
My home is a place of the east coast with a very high cost living and my salary is comparable to others who reside in my area--if not a little higher,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. However my plan's to retire to some part of the country that has a more modest cost of living (among the southeast states). When I use the usual retirement calculators that ask me to input my current income needs the results let me know I have to be saving far above things i think I'll actually need,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Is there a calculator you would suggest I use given my situation? Must i calculate my current income based on what it really would be cost to reside in that area at this time and employ that figure for that calculation?
