Pedestrian in stable condition after Route 1 accident Midcoast Bangor Daily News BDN Maine
Thursday when he crossed Route 1 near the intersection with Route 141 on the east side of the Belfast bridge,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], according to police reports.
He later told police that he had been drinking vodka before he started his walk, Belfast Police Chief Jeffrey Trafton said Monday morning. According to the police diagram of the accident, Hills headed across the road diagonally and didn use the nearby crosswalk.
Northbound driver Thane Pittman, 63,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], of Waterville told police he didn see Hills coming.
"The driver said he saw a flash and felt something hit his car,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Trafton said.
Witnesses driving behind Pittman said the Waterville man was neither speeding nor driving erratically,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Pittman and others stopped to aid Hills, who suffered unspecified injuries and was taken to the hospital.
Police found Hills to be at fault in the accident, and no charges will be filed against the driver.
