University of Oregon gets record number of applicants
One of the major reasons for universities investing so much time and money on major athletics for the exposure it gives the school - exposure that, when combined with winning teams, results in increased applications,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], more competition for admittance,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and a stronger class of incoming freshmen. This comes just a few months after the school's football program had its first-ever undefeated regular season and BCS National Championship appearance. Despite a 3-point loss in the title game to Auburn,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the flashy playing style,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], unique uniforms,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and overall feel of the university garnered plenty of national attention,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], bringing in both in-state and out-of-state high school applicants in record numbers.
Although 22,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],000 people applied, the incoming 2011 freshman class will consist of only 4,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],000 students, meaning the school will also be turning down a record number of applicants.
The reason is simply that the school,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], despite having a huge football budget (mostly paid for by boosters and Nike founder Phil Knight,) does not have the monetary funds to support more students. And thanks to state funding being down for at least the next two years,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the University of Oregon cannot build the necessary buildings and hire the necessary professors that it would need to fulfill higher enrollments.
Nevertheless, you can expect Oregon's applicant rates to continue rising as the team continues its current run of football dominance.
